Retail trade turnover up by 2.6% in the first six months (unadjusted series)

The retail trade turnover volume (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), as unadjusted series, registered an overall increase of 2.6% in the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 2024, due to higher sales of non-food products (+5.9%) and retail trade of automotive fuels in specialised stores (+2.2%).

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), sales of food, beverages, and tobacco declined by 1.2%.

In seasonally and working-day adjusted terms, retail trade turnover recorded an overall increase of 3.4%, as a result of the growth in sales of non-food products (+7%) and the retail trade of automotive fuels in specialised stores (+1.1%). Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco decreased by 0.2%.

In June 2025 compared with May 2025, the retail trade turnover volume (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), as unadjusted series, increased overall by 1.4%, due to a 10% rise in the retail trade of automotive fuel in specialised stores. Declines were recorded in the sales of non-food products (-0.7%) and in food, beverages and tobacco (-0.3%).

As seasonally and working-day adjusted series, retail trade turnover rose overall by 1.1% compared with the previous month, driven by increases in the retail trade of automotive fuel in specialised stores (+1.8%), food, beverages and tobacco (+0.4%) and non-food products (+0.2%).

Compared with June 2024, the retail trade turnover volume (excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles), in unadjusted terms, rose overall by 2.8%, due to increases in the sales of non-food products (+5.5%) and the retail trade of automotive fuel in specialised stores (+2.8%). Sales of food, beverages and tobacco dropped by 0.4%.

In seasonally and working-day adjusted terms, retail trade turnover increased overall by 2.5%, in June 2025 versus June 2024, driven by higher sales of non-food products (+5.8%) and the retail trade of automotive fuel in specialised stores (+0.2%). Food, beverages and tobacco sales declined by 0.7%.
