River Danube flow expected to double in coming days

Published on

The flow of the Danube River upon entering Romania on the Bazias section will increase significantly in the coming days, up to 8,000 cubic metres/second, well above the multiannual average of September, according to a latest forecast published by the National Institute of Hydrology and Watercourse Management (INHGA).

According to hydrologists, the multiannual average for September is 3,800 cubic metres/second.

Until September 24, at 07:00hrs, downstream of the Iron Gates, the flow of the Danube River will be increasing to 8,000 cubic meters/s.

Between September 18, 07:00hrs and September 24, 07:00hrs the average daily flows will generally be decreasing, except on the middle and lower courses of the large rivers in the east of the country, where they will be increasing by propagation in the first part of the interval, and on the rivers in the southern and south-eastern parts of the country.

On Monday, September 18, the flows on the watercourses will remain at high values on some tributaries in the lower basins of the Siret, Barlad and Prut rivers, as a result of the propagation of the previously formed floods, with possible exceedances of the defence quotas.

At the same time, in the first part of the forecast interval, runoff on slopes, torrents, streams and increases in levels and flows with possible local flooding effects on some small rivers in the hill and mountain areas of most regions are possible, due to the forecasted rainfall.
