Romania and Spain are advocating for a European Union that is more capable, responsible and capable of providing support, that will play a relevant role through the implementation of the Strategic Compass and in full complementarity with NATO and by avoiding overlaps, including in the current security context marked by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, shows the joint statement signed, on Wednesday, by the heads of the Romanian and Spanish governments, according to Agerpres.
„Romania and Spain reiterate their status as solidary partners in the European Union and allies that support the security of the Euro-Atlantic space within NATO, at a crucial moment for our societies after the illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia,” emphasizes the statement signed by Nicolae Ciuca and Pedro Sanchez on the occasion of the joint meeting of the two countries’ governments in Castellon de la Plana.
At the same time, mentions the document, Romania and Spain declare their commitment to a strong and consolidated NATO, „focused on the full implementation of the Strategic Concept adopted in Madrid, with a special emphasis on strengthening the defense and deterrence of the Eastern Flank, while ensuring the contribution to a collective defense based on a 360-degree approach”.
