Romania could triple or even increase its data center capacity by seven to eight times in the next three years, after several investors have announced the construction of new projects in Bucharest in recent months, believes Mihai Manole, general director of Tema Energy , according to a company statement.

Last year, several relevant players announced their intentions and started projects to implement large data centers. Bucharest is the chosen locality in advance due to the easy access to communication highways, electricity networks, but also to qualified personnel, the cited source shows.

Moreover, eight of the ten most relevant data centers in Romania are located in the Capital, according to the data synthesized by the DataCenter Forum organizers. This year’s edition of the DataCenter Forum, which will take place on May 9, will host for the first time a debate on the investment opportunities that Romania offers, in which representatives of the companies Portland Trust, DC Byte and ClusterPower will participate.

The capital of Romania ranks ninth in the top of the emerging markets at EMEA level (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), with data centers totaling 15 MW of electric power, according to the 2023 report of the Knight Frank real estate consulting company, reads the release. The projects already under development can increase this capacity to 50-55 MW in a relatively short term.

Another similar report, published by Savills, places Bucharest on the 30th place in the top of the most recommended European cities for operating a data center.

DataCenter Forum is the only event dedicated to the data center and cloud market in Romania, bringing together the most important players in the industry, from investors and data center owners to specialists, designers, consultants. The event is organized by Tema Energy, leader of the Data Center market in Romania.

Founded in 2002, the company stood out as an integrator of complex engineering systems and solutions: data centers, continuous power supply systems, energy storage, fire detection and extinguishing, air conditioning, communications, software management, railway systems and other solutions, addressed to critical infrastructures and „mission-critical” applications. Tema Energy currently has a team of over 70 engineers, specialists and technicians and continues to recruit qualified staff, as well as young graduates from technical universities.
