Romania denies entry for seven waste shipments from European countries

Published on

Seven shipments of waste from European countries exceeding 73 tonnes have been denied entry into Romania at the Nadlac II and Bors II border crossings after it was found that the drivers did not have the legal documents for waste importing into Romania.

According to the cargo manifests, the drivers were shipping aluminium, electrical and electronical devices, second-hand printers, second-hand furniture and footwear from trading companies in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Hungary for companies in Romania.

„As they suspected the shipments to be illegal, border guards requested authorised support from the representatives of the Bihor and Arad County Depatments with the National Environmental Guard and Bihor and Arad Consumer Protection offices. Checks revealed that the lorries were actually loaded with 73,440 kg of waste, for which the drivers could not present the necessary documents requested by law for the import of such products,” Arad Border Police informed on Tuesday.

The waste was ordered to be returned to the countries where it had been loaded.
