Romania has been invited by France to participate in discussions regarding the nuclear protection "umbrella." During an official visit to Poland, Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu declined to express a personal opinion on the subject.
Oana Țoiu, Minister of Foreign Affairs: Regarding France's proposal, Romania is one of the countries invited to these talks. Our strategic partners are always open to advancing discussions related to security and economic development, but it is still in the very early stages in terms of the details of the potential plan. and on the Romanian side, the feedback we have in this regard falls within the competence of the National Security Council, chaired by the president, and the president will soon have meetings relevant to this topic.
France will increase the number of nuclear warheads, President Emmanuel Macron has announced. Eight European countries have 'agreed' to participate in the 'advanced deterrence' proposed by Paris.
Emmanuel Macron, President of France, stated: I have ordered an increase in the number of nuclear warheads in our arsenal to put an end to any speculation. We will no longer disclose the figures for our nuclear arsenal, unlike in the past.
According to the latest data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute and the Federation of American Scientists, France has approximately 290 nuclear warheads. It is the fourth largest nuclear power in the world, after Russia (over 4,300), the US (around 3,700), and China (approximately 600).
France remains the only nuclear power in the European Union, and Paris suggests that its strategic strength could more directly support continental security without ceding political control.
