Romania joined the International Network for Nuclear Security Training and Support (NSSC) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) through the National Institute for Physics and Engineering Research and Development „Horia Hulubei” Nuclear Plant (IFIN-HH), the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization informs on Monday, according to Agerpres.
Established in 2012 under the IAEA aegis, the NSSC network is the international framework dedicated to the promotion of cooperation and coordination, the identification of good practices and the exchange of information and resources between the member states of the agency.
„The involvement of IFIN-HH in the NSSC Network will facilitate, on the one hand, the implementation in our country of programmes meant for the development of human resources, technical support and scientific support in the area of nuclear security, as well as the creation in the future of a national support centre for nuclear security under the aegis of the IAEA. Given Romania’s internationally recognized expertise, this step will contribute to the strengthening of nuclear security both nationally, regionally and globally,” reads a press release of the Ministry of Research sent to Agerpres on Monday.
According to the press release, through the specific activities of IFIN-HH and in close collaboration with the relevant authorities of the state, the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization is „actively” engaged in providing technical support both at the national level and to other states in the region in the field nuclear security.
