Romania supports a settlement solution based on full respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, ForMin says

Romania supports a solution based on full respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Foreign Minister Oana Toiu said on Monday in an X post.

Her statements come after the informal video conference of EU foreign ministers, in the runup to the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the situation in Ukraine.

”My recent visit to Kyiv has once again confirmed that Ukraine, its leaders, and its people are committed to peace. Romania shares this goal as both a neighbor and a EU member, and I reiterated this today in the FAC meeting. The efforts of the US and President Donald Trump’s initiative to reach a just and lasting peace in Ukraine are based on the powerful leverage that the US holds and, hopefully, will continue to use. I emphasized that Romania supports a solution grounded in full respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, with Ukraine fully involved in the negotiations — nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. For peace to be real, it must be long-lasting, and this can only happen through the participation and will of the citizens,” said the Romanian top diplomat.

According to her, any settlement should be accompanied by robust security guarantees to prevent renewed aggression.

„These guarantees should complement deterrence and defense measures for the Eastern Flank and include specific provisions for the Black Sea,” she also pointed out.
