Romania to contribute 3 M US dollars to the building of Victims of Communism Museum in Washington DC

President Klaus Iohannis promulgated the law regarding the payment of a voluntary financial contribution from Romania to support the Museum of Victims of Communism in Washington DC, according to Agerpres.

„By Government decision, at the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the payment of Romania’s voluntary financial contribution to support the building of the Museum of Victims of Communism in Washington DC has been approved, representing the equivalent in lei of 3,000,000 US dollars. The financial contribution is granted in a single installment. The contribution will be calculated based on the leu/US dollar exchange rate on the date of payment,” the law states.

The contribution is intended for the building of the Museum of Victims of Communism in Washington DC, as well as the endowment of the section that presents the victims of the communist regime in Romania.

„At the request of the Museum of Victims of Communism in Washington DC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian Academy, the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives and other institutions of the Romanian state can provide information, for the purpose of a good representation of the victims of communism in Romania,” the normative act also shows.
