Romania to participate in reflection processes on EU internal reform (Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu)

Romania will promote an „ambitious” European agenda and will participate in the reflection processes on the internal reform of the European Union, Minister Luminita Odobescu said, according to a press release sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).

„As we are at the beginning of a new European institutional cycle, I am convinced that our joint efforts will contribute to harnessing the real potential of the European Union. In this respect, Romania will make all necessary efforts to promote an ambitious European agenda and will actively participate in the reflection processes on the internal reform of the Union,” the foreign minister told the International Conference „Future of Europe”, organised by the Faculty of International Relations of the University of Economic Studies in Bucharest.

Luminita Odobescu emphasised the current „particularly complicated” context, marked by „multiple crises and major challenges”, as well as the need to implement an „ambitious European agenda that will contribute to increasing the EU’s global role and ensure the security, prosperity and well-being” of its citizens in a sustainable manner.

At the same time, she reiterated Romania’s commitment to promoting European solidarity and emphasised the relevance of the reflection process on the internal reform of the EU, including in the perspective of the future enlargement.

„Thus, she pointed out the importance of the signal sent by the start of accession negotiations with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as the need to provide the necessary support for the successful completion of these processes,” reads the MAE press release.

The Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the need to strengthen economic „resilience and competitiveness” in a way that targets European values, education, demography, migration, the green and digital transitions, value chains, critical infrastructures and economic, energy and food security. In this context, she emphasized the major role of universities in human capital development.

„The Future of Europe” International Conference, now in its 15th edition, brings together academics, researchers, business experts and government representatives to discuss international economic relations, with a focus on the implications for the European Union.
