Romania will support Greece by sending a module composed of 50 firefighters with the related hardware specialized in extinguishing wildfires.
According to a Government’s release, the decision was taken during the meeting of the National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU), convened by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
„The members of the CNSU had a meeting in a hybrid system as a result of the situation generated by the wildfires affecting the Hellenic Republic and taking into account the request of the Greek authorities for the provision of international assistance, the Department for Emergency Situations, through the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations, in its capacity as the national contact point, received from the Emergency Response Coordination Center of the European Commission (ERCC), through CECIS, the request of the Greek authorities for the provision of international assistance, considering the emergency situation generated by the wildfires on their territory. Following the activation of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, the Romanian Government responded to the call received and decided to send a module composed of 50 firefighters with related hardware specialized in extinguishing wildfires to Greece „, reads a Government’s press release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.
The support offered by the Romanian state was accepted by the Greek authorities.
The rescue teams of the IGSU will move by land to Greece in the shortest possible time.
