Romania will take over from Qatar the presidency of the INSARAG Regional Group Africa Europe Middle East, starting with 2024, following the vote expressed on Tuesday by the representatives of the member countries, informs a press release from the Romanian General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) sent to Agerpres.

„Romania received 90 percent of votes in favour to take over the presidency of the INSARAG Regional Group Africa Europe Middle East in 2024, compared to the Russian Federation which received 10 percent of the votes,” says IGSU.

The specific steps for the certification process were initiated in May 2014, according to the guidelines of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), for the Romanian Urban Search and Rescue Team (RO USAR) within the IGSU.

„The process was completed through a practical activity lasting 36 hours, during which an international team of classifiers representing the UN evaluated the way in which the process of notification – warning – mobilization of the team was carried out, the information flow, the equipment of the team, namely the execution and implementation of search-rescue procedures according to INSARAG Guidelines,” the cited source shows.

Following the evaluation process, the Medium National Urban Search and Rescue Team was classified, in accordance with the provisions of the guide of the International Search and Rescue Consultative Group organized under the auspices of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN – OCHA).

In June 2019, following the participation in the exercise „EU MODEX Lot 3” – 2019 in Montana, Bulgaria, the Medium National Urban Search and Rescue Team was reclassified following the evaluation process by a team of classifiers appointed by the UN – OCHA.
