The minister of Research, Innovation and Digitization (MCID), Bogdan Ivan, signed, on Thursday, a Memorandum of Understanding with the Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy from the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Omar Sultan Al Olama, in the presence of Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

According to the Facebook account of Minister Ivan, the main directions of action of the MoU are: the exchange of experience between research institutes and specialized universities, the development of joint projects in the research of AI technologies, the increase of private investments in Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on start-ups companies and SMEs that develop innovative solutions, joint education and professional training programs.

„The United Arab Emirates is a model of high-tech governance and has one of the most accelerated economic developments in the world. The first minister of AI in the world was created here, as well as the first specialized university. Romania has a fundamental advantage in the economic and legislative alignment with the European Union, the second largest global market. Because our economies are future-oriented, Romania’s relationship with the UAE is strategic,” added Minister Bogdan Ivan.

He also stated that he found in the United Arab Emirates „numerous investors interested in the digital opportunities that Romania offers” and that he presented „concrete projects through which the 200,000 Romanian IT experts can develop innovative solutions that bring the future closer”.
