Romanian tennis player Ana Bogdan advanced on Thursday evening to the third round of the Roland Garros tournament, the second Grand Slam of the year, after pulling off a spectacular 6 – 4, 6 – 4 victory against Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
31-year-old Bogdan (WTA’s 64th) prevailed against the 2021 finalist after one hour and 38 minutes.
The Romanian thus equaled her best Roland Garros result (2021), securing a check for EUR 158,000 and 130 WTA points; in the third round she will face Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (29, WTA’s 19th), who defeated Frenchwoman Diane Parry 6 – 4, 7-6 (7/3).
Bogdan and Svitolina played their only match this April in the Billie Jean King Cup, when the Romanian won by 6 – 4, 4 – 6, 6 – 3.
