The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, and Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, who are visiting Japan, had a meeting, on Monday, with the President of the Estonian Parliament, Juri Ratas, with whom they discussed the security situation in region, the Government informed, according to Agerpres.
The meeting took place in Tokyo, in the context of the participation in the state funeral organized on Tuesday in memory of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
According to a release sent by the Executive, the Prime Minister appreciated the Romanian-Estonian bilateral relations, which he qualified as „very good,” emphasizing that they are based on common values and interests and are in continuous expansion and diversification.
„The commitment of President Ratas, both as Prime Minister of Estonia and as President of the Riigikogu (Estonian Parliament), has a special contribution to the development of bilateral relations. The coordination of the interests of Romania and Estonia within the European Union and NATO is harmoniously complemented by the cooperation in a series of regional formats such as the Three Seas Initiative and B9,” stated Ciuca, quoted in the press release.
The discussions focused on the security situation in the region. Prime Minister Ciuca mentioned the political, economic and humanitarian support provided by Romania to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as our country’s contribution to regional security and to the strengthening of NATO’s deterrence and defense posture, especially on the Eastern Flank.
Another topic addressed was that of energy, highlighting the need to increase the resistance of this sector by obtaining energy independence. Nicolae Ciuca emphasized that Romania supports a common approach for security of supply in the EU and the need for coordinated pro-active measures, states the Government.
At the same time, it was agreed to continue the actions to develop economic cooperation and to encourage mutual investments. Prime Minister Ciuca mentioned that Romania appreciates participating in the NATO Center of Excellence for Cooperative Cyber Defense in Tallinn and is interested in Estonia’s experience in the digital sector.
According to the quoted release, the President of the Estonian Parliament, Juri Ratas, appreciated the bilateral relations in continuous development and Romania’s contribution to guaranteeing regional security and strengthening NATO’s Eastern Flank.
