Culture Minister Lucian Romascanu participated over September 27-30 in the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development, MONDIACULT 2022, carried out in Mexico City, according to Agerpres.
„193 states and territories, represented by ministers of culture and UNESCO ambassadors sat together to discuss how they can make culture a central element of sustainable development, how they can make culture a central pillar of resilience in a pandemic or during catastrophic events, such as the unjust war in Ukraine,” Minister Romascanu wrote on his Facebook page.
Throughout the four-day conference, the Romanian Culture Minister delivered two speeches, and also carried out bilateral meetings.
Thus, Lucian Romascanu met with Mexican Minister of Culture Claudia Stella Curiel de Icaza, as well as with ministers of culture from Cuba, Switzerland, Serbia, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Serbia – some of them members of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee of UNESCO.
Furthermore, the Culture Minister attended a lunch with the founder of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, Raul Padilla, where he discussed about the participation in the 2023 edition, when the EU shall be the guest of honor.
Minister Lucian Romascanu also meet with Mexican Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean Maximiliano Reyes Zuniga, but also with two UNESCO representatives, namely with President of the General Conference Santiago Irazabal Mourao and Assistant Director-General for Culture Ernesto Renato Ottone Ramirez.
