The state secretary for Defense Policy, Planning and International Relations, Simona Cojocaru, stated, on Monday, during a meeting with foreign defense attachés, that the war started by Russia against Ukraine generated „multiple crises”, but „the unity without precedent” at the level of NATO and the European Union should be noted, informs MApN in a press release sent to Agerpres.
Simona Cojocaru and the chief of the Defense Staff, general Daniel Petrescu, participated in the annual meeting with accredited defense attachés in Bucharest, held on Monday at the Carol I National Defense University.
„The year 2022 has been a year full of challenges, especially for this part of Europe. The brutal and unjustified war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine on February 24 has led to multiple crises, but we must note the unprecedented unity at the NATO level and at the level of the European Union. This year we intensified bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation and achieved a significant strengthening of the allied eastern flank and the Black Sea region. For 2023, we maintain our high level of ambition and we will continue with the same energy the most efficient utilization of joint projects, but also the identification of new partnerships and opportunities for cooperation,” said Simona Cojocaru, quoted in the press release.
According to the source, during the joint presentation, general Daniel Petrescu continued by bringing to the attention of foreign diplomats issues regarding the general-strategic security situation, the endowment programs of the defense institution and the main objectives of the Defense staff, including training activities from next year.
The chief of Defense recalled the prompt and credible reaction of the Alliance on the Eastern Flank after February 24, „when the Russian Federation launched the war of aggression against Ukraine”.
MApN ssys that the Romanian Army continues to build its security position by constantly updating planning documents, keeping within the benchmarks established in the „Country Defense Strategy for the period 2020-2024”: increasing Romania’s role in the European Union, strengthening the strategic profile of NATO and the deepening of the Strategic Partnership with the USA.
