The US Congress has adopted the Omnibus Act on Budget Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2023, among its provisions is the request of the US legislature that, within 6 months of the promulgation of the law, the US Secretary of State, together with the heads of other relevant federal agencies, present to Congress a working strategy with NATO allies in the Black Sea region, for the deepening of economic relations, the consolidation of economic and security assistance for the states of the region, including by supporting efforts to increase democratic resilience, the release states.
The legislative provision is the result of an initiative introduced by a bipartisan group of prominent members of the US Congress, such as Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee (Democrat), Mitt Romney, member of the Committee on foreign relations of the US Senate (Republican), but also members of the House of Representatives such as Mike Turner and William Keating, states the Romanian embassy in Washington.
The development of a US strategy towards the region will constitute a substantial and comprehensive instrument that Romania fully supports. The strengthening of the US foreign policy towards the Black Sea region is a welcome process in the direction of increasing the comprehensive commitment of the US towards the region, in strategic areas such as defense, economy, democratic resilience, which Romania has constantly supported, the quoted statement emphasizes.
