Canada will fund the upgrade of unit 1 and the construction of units 3 and 4 of the Romanian nuclear-power plant at Cernavoda, Energy Minister Virgil Popescu wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday, according to Agerpres.

„The bilateral meeting with Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s minister of natural resources, was a good opportunity to discuss the joint energy projects, especially nuclear energy projects. I told him that the upgrade of Unit 1 and the construction of Units 3 and 4 CNE Cernavoda are a priority, contributing to ensuring energy security and achieving decarbonisation objectives. Both countries, Canada as a technology supplier and Romania as a beneficiary, have a huge responsibility in managing the actions necessary to develop Units 3 and 4 in a sustainable term. Minister Wilkinson told me that we have the support and funding from the Canadian government for the redevelopment of unit 1 and for the construction of reactors 3 and 4. I thanked my Canadian colleague for support good collaboration,” said Popescu.

He added that also discussed at the same meeting was training a new generation of specialists in the development of the nuclear field.
