Romanian firefighters helping to extinguish wildfires in Greece on Saturday were assigned a monitoring mission in two areas of the Attica region.

According to a press statement released by Romania’s General Emergency Mangement Inspectorate (IGSU), the members of the Romanian module that continue their missions in Greece today were sent on a monitoring mission in two areas of the Attica region.

Thus, 16 firefighters with three wildfire extinguishing vehicles and one first response and command vehicle will move to the area of Agia Kyriaki. Another team, composed of 15 rescuers, will carry out the response actions in the Rafina area. The two teams of Romanian firefighters will be accompanied by Greek liaison officers.

IGSU added that in case new wildfires, the two teams will be alerted and, under the coordination of the counterparts of the host country, will respond in the designated locations to contain wildfires.

„In the event that additional water will be needed, the 30,000-litre tanker located in the operations base will join the crews to cover the operational needs under the best circumstances. The firefighters located in the base of operations are providing the necessary logistical support, carrying out training activities and managing the specific operations at the base of operations. Today, August 17, the risk of wildfires is very high, including in the area where the Romanian firefighters are operating,” according to IGSU.
