Romanian forces did not fire on Russian drones in border area with Ukraine (ministry)

Romanian forces did not fire on Russian drones in the border area with Ukraine, Romania’s Defence Ministry (MApN) said on Friday in a social media post in response to „disinformation” over the issue.

„The attacks carried out by the Russian Federation targeted the Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube and not facilities in Romania, and the forces and means of the Ministry of National Defence deployed to the border area with Ukraine did notopen fire on the means of attack of the Russian Federation,” says MApN.

It adds that its responds is to „disinformation falsely pushing the idea that Romania was targeted by the Russian Federation’s drone attacks” carried on the social medias.

These messages „claim that Romania would have been targeted by the drone attacks of the Russian Federation carried out in recent days and that the aircraft defences of the Romanian Army deployed at the border would have fired on them,” the ministry shows.

„This so-called information is not based in reality.”

Drone debris of Russian origin was found near Plauru in the aftermath of attacks on the civil and port infrastructure in Ukraine on Tuesday night near the border with Romania, MApN reported on Thursday.

Specialist investigations conducted by MApN, the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and the Home Affairs Ministry (MAI) started on Wednesday.

„So far, at the first of the three locations identified as possible areas of incidence, in the vicinity of Plauru, Tulcea County, debris from a drone of Russian origin of the Geran1/2 type has been identified. Investigations will continue today, to cover the entire area. All locations identified as possible areas of incidence are outside the inhabited areas, with no infrastructure elements being affected,” said MApN.
