Minister of the Interior Catalin Predoiu referenced during a meeting on Monday with his Hungarian counterpart Sandor Pinter the countering measures implemented by the Romanian side in the border area to prevent and combat illegal migration and cross-border crime.
The talks took place on the occasion of the official ceremony for the launch of joint Romania – Hungary – Austria – Bulgaria guard patrols at the Bulgarian – Turkish border, organized on Monday in Svilengrad.
„The discussions continued the advanced dialogue carried out during 2024 in particular, with special appreciation expressed for the support and cooperation of the Hungarian partners for Romania’s achieving its full Schengen accession goal,” the Ministry of the Interior said in a release.
Minister Predoiu said that Romania will continue to attach priority to the security of its internal and external borders, will continue to invest in their technological advancement and to cooperate more closely with its immediate neighbors, including through joint patrol missions, real-time information exchange between law enforcement agencies, and the use of the Joint Points of Contact.
„The two ministers agreed that dialogue and cooperation are to continue at least at the same level as so far, both at managerial and technical level,” the Ministry of the Interior said.
