Chairman of the National Liberal party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca told private broadcaster Digi24 Monday evening that Romanians in the diaspora provide a GDP of 120 billion euros as a workforce, a figure he will use in discussions with partners from the European People’s Party, expected to attend the EPP Congress in Bucharest on March 6 and 7.
„We have 4 million Romanians working in the diaspora (…) The money sent home by Romanians in the diaspora is over 100 billion euros. But, at the same time, this will be our plea with our partners in the European People’s Party (…). I can’t wait to see how they will vote when we have this decision in the final document of the congress. There is one more issue that everyone needs to know. I will use this figure in my discussions with my EPP partners. Romanians, in the countries where they work, provide a GDP of 120 billion euros. So, in all the countries where there are Romanians, 120 billion. If we add up all these years, it is quite an amount. As such, the recognition should not only be for Romania as a country, but it should be for the entire Romanian labourforce working abroad,” said Ciuca.
He added that negotiations for the final declaration at the EPP Congress are in their final stage.
„And we are set to have the acceptance and the decision for Romania to complete the process of integration into the Schengen Area,” Ciuca added.
