Romanian mountain troops join US, French troops for joint training

The 61st General Virgil Badulescu Mountain Troops Brigade based in Miercurea Ciuc regularly participate in training modules with soldiers from other NATO countries, having lately carried out joint training with soldiers from the US and France, according to Agerpres.

The Romanian brigade’s commander Gabriel Oros told the press on Tuesday that a joint training module with soldiers of the 2nd BCT Strike Brigade of US 101st Airborne Division completed a few days ago.

At a the training camp at Delut, in the Calimani mountains, the Romanian mountain troops and the American soldiers planned and carried out urban combat exercises specific to actions on mountainous – forested terrain, as well as training modules on living in isolation, using common techniques, tactics and procedures as they are adjusted for the NATO alliance.

It is for the first time that mountain troops of the 61st brigade participated in a training module with soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division, as the US Army deployed this battlegroup to Romania in 2022, said Oros.

Currently, the Romanian mountain troops are continuing training with French soldiers of the NATO Enhanced Presence Battlegroup deployed to Romania under French command.

In 2022, training was held with French mountain troops, paratroopers from the marine infantry of the French Army, and this week a joint training of the Romanian mountain troops with the 1st Armoured Regiment of the French Army is being completed at Lunca de Sus garrison.
