Romanian PM Ciuca: We can give 5 million cu m of gas to Moldova, not more

Romania can give up to a maximum of five million cubic metres of gas to the Republic of Moldova, per day, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca said on Monday, specifying that the Moldovan state asked our country to supply it with natural gas, according to Agerpres.

„They [those from the Republic of Moldova – editor’s note], when I discussed with Prime Minister Gavrilita, need 150 million cubic meters. (…) We still need to see what quantities we can secure in the next period, because, as the situation in warehouses shows today, we have stored more than 86pct, about 87pct, which means that if we manage to have contracts signed for the winter period, to maintain the balance in the system and to have the necessary quantities in the days of temperatures low, we can ensure the respective quantity,” said Ciuca.

Asked if the Republic of Moldova will have a gas problem during the winter, the PM said: „If Gazprom cuts stops supplying them with gas right now, then they really have a problem, and we can provide to the Republic of Moldova that quantity coming through the Ungheni – Ungheni pipeline, but it will not cover the needs of the country, for we can give them 5 million cubic meters per day, but not more.
