Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca sent his congratulations to the newly elected president of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, citing his pro-European and pro-Western convictions as solid arguments for further strengthening relations between the two states, according to Agerpres.

„I warmly congratulate Petr Pavel for his election as president of the Czech Republic! His pro-European and pro-Western convictions are solid arguments for us further strengthening the relations between Romania and the Czech Republic and for our collaboration in the EU and NATO,” wrote Ciuca, on his Twitter account, on Saturday.

Petr Pavel, former head of the NATO Military Committee who supported the granting of military help to Ukraine, won the presidential elections in the Czech Republic on Saturday with 57.4pct of the votes, according to the partial results after counting 93pct of the ballots.
