Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca met with the president of the Arab Republic of Egypt, during the working visit to Cairo, with whom he discussed the cooperation of the two countries in economic and social fields, but also the impact of the Russian military aggression on of Ukraine, including an increase in grain exports from Romania to the Egyptian market, informs a press release sent to Agerpres by the Government.
„The meeting, which took place at the Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace, covered topics such as bilateral cooperation in economic and social fields, but also the impact of Russian military aggression on Ukraine. The Egyptian president thanked, on this occasion, for the support provided by Romania in the evacuation from Ukraine of over a thousand repatriated Egyptian students last year, as well as for the facilitation of the export of Ukrainian grain to Egypt. In this context, the Romanian prime minister highlighted the need to support Romanian farmers through access to the production of fertilizers from Egypt necessary for crops agricultural. At the same time, the parties have agreed to increase the grain exports of Romanian farmers to the Egyptian market”, the mentioned release reads.
Also, the two high officials emphasized „the strategic importance of the mutual relationship, which allows the capitalization of the geostrategic position of Romania in the EU and of Egypt as the gateway to Africa and the Middle East”.
„From this perspective, the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on regional and global security was analyzed. During the discussions, aspects regarding the peace process in the Middle East and Romania’s role in facilitating a favorable environment in this regard were also addressed”, reports the cited source.
At the same time, the two officials agreed to develop cooperation at the political and technical level, for the benefit of both states, the Government’s release also mentions.
