During the opening session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, titled “Bridging Perspectives: Reinforcing Dialogue, Mediation, and Trust in an Era of Uncertainty,” the Romanian representative urged participating States to revitalize multilateral cooperation and reinforce key OSCE institutions as geopolitical tensions continue to rise.
The intervention warned that multilateralism is facing unprecedented strain worldwide, emphasizing that the OSCE must remain a reliable platform for dialogue, mediation, and confidence-building. The speaker highlighted the Organization’s comprehensive concept of security as a crucial foundation for cooperation, even as internal and external challenges persist.
It was noted that many conflicts across the OSCE region stem from failures to uphold commitments in the human dimension. Strengthening institutions such as the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the Representative on Freedom of the Media, and the High Commissioner on National Minorities was described as a strategic necessity for achieving durable peace.
Addressing fellow parliamentarians, the Romanian delegate stressed the need for the Assembly to foster dialogue rooted in empathy and clarity, while maintaining a firm distinction between aggressor and victim, as well as between compliance and violation of shared commitments.
Romania reaffirmed its long-standing dedication to the OSCE PA’s work, including support for field visits, election observation missions, conflict-prevention tools, and mediation initiatives. Strengthening transparency, accountability, and full implementation of OSCE commitments was presented as vital for preserving the Organization’s relevance and ensuring peace and resilience for future generations.
The intervention concluded by reiterating Romania’s role as a reliable and constructive partner within the Assembly, committed to bridging perspectives, reinforcing dialogue and mediation, and restoring trust in the rules-based order.
