Romania’s meat production up in June compared to May for all animal species and poultry

Romania’s meat production increased in June 2025 for all animal species and poultry compared to the previous month, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published Monday.

Compared to June 2024, meat production increased for pigs, sheep, goats and poultry, but decreased for cattle.

Thus, in June 2025, 301,000 pigs were slaughtered, increasing by 5.99pct compared to May 2025, when 284,000 animals were slaughtered. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of slaughters increased by 1.35pct (from 297,000 head). Pork production totalled 26,701 tonnes in June 2025, increasing by 2.1pct compared to May 2025 and by 1.18pct compared to the same month in 2024.

Poultry meat production increased in June 2025 by 19.56pct compared to the previous month and by 13.72pct compared to the same month in 2024.

Statistical data show that in June 2025, 31.052 million poultry were slaughtered, up 23.91pct compared to the previous month (25.060 million head) and by 13.91pct compared to June 2024 (27.261 million head).

In respect to beef production, it totaled 6,657 tonnes in June this year, up 1.23pct from May, when 6,576 tonnes of carcass weight were recorded. Compared to June 2024, when 6,867 tonnes of carcasses were recorded, there was a decrease by 3.06pct.

In the analyzed period, the number of cattle slaughtered reached 40,000 head, increasing by 2.56pct from 39,000 head recorded in May 2025. Compared to June 2024, the number of slaughtering decreased by 2.44pct.

For sheep and goats, carcass weight increased in June 2025 compared to the previous month, as well as compared to June 2024. Thus, sheep and goat meat production reached 4,126 tonnes in June, 12.95pct higher than in May, when 3,653 tonnes were recorded. Compared to June 2024, production rose by 1.6pct.

According to the INS, in June 2025, a number of 305,000 sheep and goats were slaughtered, fewer than in May, when 315,000 animals were slaughtered. In June 2024, the number of sheep and goats slaughtered totaled 311,000 heads.

„The data refer exclusively to slaughters for consumption,” the INS mentioned.
