Romania’s President Nicusor Dan and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will pay a joint visit to the Military Port of Constanta and the 57th ‘Mihail Kogalniceanu’ Air Base on Monday afternoon, the Presidential Administration announced.
According to the official source, Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled to arrive at the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base at 3:00 p.m., after which she will visit, together with President Nicusor Dan, „Regele Ferdinand” frigate, docked at the Military Port of Constanta.
Subsequently, the two will return to the air base, where they will hold official talks, meet with deployed military personnel and hold a joint press conference.
The discussions will focus on strengthening EU-NATO cooperation, as well as on matters related to the prevention, detection and deterrence of maritime and hybrid threats, the Presidential Administration pointed out.
Since 29 September, the head of the European Commission has been paying visits to Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Romania.
According to the European Commission Representation in Romania, her visits aim to highlight the EU support for member states facing challenges due to shared borders with Russia or Belarus, discussing Europe’s security and defence with governmental and military officials.
In Romania, President von der Leyen will engage in discussions with government and military officials regarding EU-NATO cooperation, as well as the prevention, detection, deterrence and defence against maritime and hybrid threats.
