Romania’s President Nicusor Dan will participate on Tuesday in the videoconference of European Council members, the Presidential Administration informs.
European Council President Antonio Costa convened for Tuesday a videoconference of the members of the European Council, taking into account the latest developments concerning Ukraine.
„Together with the US, the EU will continue working towards a lasting peace that safeguards Ukraine’s and Europe’s vital security interests,” Antonio Costa underlined in his message convening the informal meeting.
Before the meeting of the European Council members, which takes place at 14,00hrs Romania’s time, the head of state will also participate in the online meeting of the Coalition of the Willing.
Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu also announced on her X page on Monday, after a discussion with High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union Kaja Kallas that virtual meeting of European Council leaders would be held on Tuesday.
„I have just called Kaja Kallas @kajakallas, Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, to align efforts for peace, as well as to discuss the next steps at European level. For Romania, ensuring a long-lasting peace, and not just an indefinite pause in the war, as well as considering the implications for the Black Sea, are essential in this process. We support a strong, common voice of the Coalition of the Willing,” the head of the Romanian diplomacy pointed out.
US President Donald Trump met in Washington on Monday with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Then followed a meeting with seven European leaders. The US president said the war would end, while welcoming the Ukrainian counterpart and the European leaders, who voiced availability to collaborate for Ukraine’s peace and security in the future, according to AFP.
