The Tatar Democratic Union of Romania organises the Hidirellez holiday, inscribed in 2017 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, between May 10 and 12, in Mangalia, with a varied offer for visitors – food, music, dance, traditional games, creative workshops and crafts, celebrating the rebirth of nature, the coming of summer.

The daily schedule will be posted on the www.udt.ro on Thursday.

„The aim of the project is to get to know ad promote the elements of the intangible heritage of the Tatar ethnic community, offering a space for intercultural dialogue by calling for the rediscovery of traditional games inscribed in the UNESCO heritage, music, dances and traditional gastronomy, crafts and customs through interaction and practical approach. The project restores the link between history, culture, art and education, promoting the shaping of national ethnic identity and contributes to the establishment of national cultural values highlighting UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage, on a route of wide interest to the public, with special attention to young people and children,’ according to the Tatar Democratic Union.

There will be competitions of traditional games, including togyzkumalak, bestemshe, mangala, traditional archery, wrestling, and tug-of-war. The horse races will be organised by the Mangalia Stud Farm.

„Hidirellez is a project financed by the Ministry of Culture that will bring a valuable contribution to promoting the culture of the Turkic-Tatar ethnic community and cultural diversity as a positive value towards intercultural education at national and international level,” the representatives of the Union specify.
