The unemployment rate in Romania stood at 3.09% at the end of May, 0.01 percentage points below the previous month’s level, according to data centralised by the National Agency for Employment (ANOFM), published on Friday.
Thus, during the analysed period, the total number of unemployed people was 248,909, of whom 49,751 were unemployed with benefits and 199,158 without benefits. In the case of the unemployed on benefits, their number decreased by 2,192, while the number of the unemployed not on benefits increased by 1,567, compared to April this year.
By area of residence, the number of unemployed people is as follows: 66,105 unemployed people from urban areas and 182,804 unemployed people from rural areas.
According to the source, the number of unemployed women at the end of May was 116,442, while the number of unemployed men was 132,467.
Most of the unemployed were aged between 40 and 49 (65 314), followed by those aged 55 and over (55 843), and at the other end of the scale were people aged 25 to 29 (14 260).
As regards the structure of unemployment by level of education, the unemployed with no education and those with primary education have a significant share in the total number of unemployed registered in the ANOFM records (31.76%).
Moreover, unemployed with secondary school education represent 34.9% of the total number of registered unemployed, and those with university education 4.5%.
