Royal Air Force of Great Britain to begin air policing mission in Romania next week

Published on

The Royal Air Force of Great Britain will start an air policing mission in Romania next week, informs the Ministry of National Defence (MApN).

According to the MApN, the certification ceremony of the detachment deployed in Romania to carry out reinforced air policing missions will take place on Tuesday, in Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base 57.

Members of the MApN leadership, the ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Bucharest, Giles Portman, representatives of the NATO Air Operations Centre (CAOC) Torrejon and of the British Royal Air Force, as well as the deputy chief of Staff of the Romanian Air Force were invited to the event.

The British detachment, made up of approximately 220 pilots and technical staff and six Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, will carry out enhanced air policing missions under the command of NATO, in the next four months, together with Romanian Air Force airmen.

This is the fifth rotation at Mihail Kogalniceanu of the British Royal Air Force, after those carried out in 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022.

Joint air policing missions contribute to the development of reaction and deterrence capacity, as well as to the strengthening of interoperability between the Romanian Air Force and the British Royal Air Force.
