Her Majesty Margareta, Crown Custodian, and Prince Radu participated at the Romanian Embassy in Finland on Monday in the presentation of the AGERPRES travelling photo exhibition „The Royal Family’s Contribution to Strengthening Romania’s Role in NATO and the EU 2002-2023,” which includes images taken during the Royal Family’s foreign activities.

„Over the past 34 years, the Royal Family has shown remarkable dedication and strong leadership in Romania’s transition to democracy, NATO and the European Union. Her Majesty Margareta and His Royal Highness Radu have made an important contribution to advancing relations between our country, our partners and allies. Your Majesty, Your Royal Highness, you carry a clear and crucial message around the world that Romania is a country dedicated to democracy and human rights,” said Romania’s Ambassador to Finland Maria Ligor.

Among the representative photographs from the archive of the AGERPRES National News Agency exhibited at the event were those from a visit Her Majesty Margareta and Prince Radu paid to the Clingendael Institute in The Hague, a photograph from the speech given by Her Majesty Margareta during a round table at the Royal Elcano Institute in Madrid, and a photograph from the speech given at the opening of the conference „Woman Today: Voices from Central Europe” held in the Republic of Poland.

„The photos belong to the AGERPRES National News Agency. It is the largest and the oldest news agency in Romania and holds a huge archive of photographs, I think it represents a national treasure in this sense. As a member of the Foreign Ministry I am proud to say that a minister of Foreign Affairs founded the agency, his name is Petre Carp,” explained Adrian Ligor – Director in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The images that made up the outdoor exhibition were selected from a vast archive of over 4.5 million photographs.

„Regarding the exhibition, we selected around 35 representative images because we have 4.5 million photographs in our archives since 1927. We have a treasure trove and, for us journalists, photographs represent an objective view of history. The photographs remain objective because at AGERPRES we do not alter the images in any way. What you see here are international moments where the Royal Family is trying to contribute to Romania’s accession to NATO and the EU,” said AGERPRES National News Agency Director General Claudia Nicolae.

Her Majesty Margareta voiced her joy to be with the Romanians in Finland and thanked them for their support to the Republic of Moldova.

„I know that many people here know Romania, and I want to thank those who worked on behalf of my country and also on behalf of Moldova. I thank you from the bottom of my heart because we need this community, strength, inspiration and support,” said Her Majesty Margareta, the Crown Custodian.

The Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Her Majesty Margareta, and His Royal Highness Prince Radu are paying a visit to the Republic of Finland from Sunday until 21 June.

On Monday, Her Majesty Margareta and Prince Radu paid a visit to the Government Palace in Helsinki, where they met Minister of European Affairs Anders Adlercreutz. The meeting, which took place in the historic Banquet Hall, was attended by Maria Ligor, Romania’s Ambassador to Finland, Dr. Jonathan Eyal, member of the Royal Council, and Andreas Elfving and Crista Gronroos – special advisors to the minister.

Afterwards, the Royal Family went to the European Centre of Excellence for Combating Hybrid Threats in the Finnish capital. On the agenda were topics on the security situation in South-East Europe and key lessons learned from the Republic of Moldova’s fight against Russia’s hybrid operations.

Also on Monday, Her Majesty Margareta and Prince Radu went to the Port of Katajanokka, where they visited the Coast Guard patrol vessel – Turva.
