Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Wednesday that the Constitutional Court’s ruling confirming the constitutionality of the law on magistrates’ occupational pensions validates the „correctness” of the Romanian Government’s approach.
„Romania is thus taking a firm step against unjustified privileges and is succeeding in completing the reform of magistrates’ pensions, long demanded by Romanian society. This decision would not have been possible without the determination of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who rejected compromise solutions and consistently pursued the reform agenda that for years had been avoided or postponed by other governments. As of today, we are correcting an unbalanced system that has burdened the public budget and has been perceived as privileged compared with other taxpayers. It is an important step towards a society based on fairness, fiscal responsibility and respect for every taxpayer,” Abrudean wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the Constitutional Court of Romania rejected a challenge filed by the High Court of Cassation and Justice against the Bolojan Government’s new draft law on magistrates’ pension reform, ruling that the legislation is constitutional. AGERPRES
