Senate President Mircea Abrudean conveyed to the children on Tuesday to rely on the state institutions, as their efforts will result in „better laws” and „constructive” public policies for a brighter future.
„The most important role for us, as decision-makers for children and beyond, is to listen to them more and I am glad that, in the last period, we have had the opportunity to hear many children who brought specific problems along with solutions. It is important to analyse children’s solutions because they are extremely ingenious and innovative, and they help us legislate correctly,” Abrudean said on Tuesday at the roundtable „Children’s rights – a priority for Romania,” organised by the Senate, UNICEF and the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption.
He brought to mind the amendments adopted this year to Law No.272/2004 on the promotion of children’s rights and underscored that Parliament will continue the demarches to further protect children’s rights and provide the necessary conditions „for them to develop properly in a very complex and challenging world.”
„As Senate President, I offer my full openness and support for any initiative that promotes children’s participation in the decision-making process. Next week, in the Senate plenary, we will have three interventions from children, coinciding with the World Children’s Day and I considered it necessary to take this approach. Children should come to the Senate plenary to address senators and express what they consider important, and we certainly have much to learn. I wish you every success in everything you do! Rely on our support and know that good things also happen in Parliament. We welcome you every time with the same openness and the same involvement, which will materialize into better laws, healthier, more constructive public policies from the Government, in order to have the best possible future for children,” Abrudean added.
UNICEF’s representative in Romania, Anna Riatti, highlighted Romania’s progress in this area, including a national strategy and an action plan for children.
„It is a major challenge to reach the most vulnerable children, to work on children’s rights worldwide, (…) to innovate and create specialized services,” Riatti added. AGERPRES
