There is a huge potential for the economic and political ties between Romania and Japan that can be highlighted if the two countries co-operate more closely in several areas is the conclusion of a meeting on Monday at the Romanian Parliament House of Senate Chairman Nicolae Ciuca and Vice President of Japan’s House of Councillors Hiroyuki Nagahama.
„The strategic partnership- signed in March 2023 by President Klaus Iohannis and the Japanese side – has promoted our countries’ relationships to the highest level in the history of this bilateral dialogue. During my term of office as prime minister, Romania resumed dialogue with Japan for negotiation of this diplomatic project. I want to thank the high guest for the direct support that his country provides to Romania in the process of integration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The admission of our country to OECD will enshrine Romania’s entry into the ranks of developed countries, which large international investors are constantly taking into account,” Ciuca said in a social media post.
According to a press release of the Romanian Senate, during the meeting, Ciuca highlighted the importance of strengthening the political and security dialogue between Romania and Japan amid growing volatility of the international environment, mentioning Japan’s exemplary involvement in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and in the reconstruction efforts.
Also, he mentioned „the important symbols of the Romanian-Japanese cooperation, such as the inauguration of a bridge over the Danube in Braila, a remarkable engineering work, and the future M6 metro line to the Henri Coanda Airport, symbols that reflect the successful partnership between the two countries.”
Ciuca also underlined Romania’s desire to „see a consistent involvement of Japan in infrastructure of strategic relevance, such as railway, road and energy infrastructure”, mentioning that a series of projects can be carried out in partnerships with Japanese investors, who can benefit from the guarantees offered by the Romanian government for such investments.
