Senator Anca Dragu to Austrian Federal Council’s President: It is time for Romania to be part of Schengen

Published on

The Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Senate, Anca Dragu, sent a letter to the president of the Austrian Federal Council, Korinna Schumann, asking her to support Romania’s accession to the Schengen area, showing that officials of the Government in Vienna made „unfounded” statements about our country, informs the Senate in a release sent to Agerpres.

Save Romania Union (USR) senator Anca Dragu affirms that Romania respects all the technical criteria, and Romanian citizens must benefit from the same rights as all other EU citizens.

„It’s time for Romania to be part of Schengen! The statements of some Austrian government officials who say that our country is a transit area for illegal immigrants are unfounded,” Dragu emphasized.

„Romania’s economy is strongly affected as long as there are additional costs borne by companies from our country due to the fact that they cannot move freely in the Schengen area,” says Dragu, adding that „Because Austria is one of the biggest investors in Romania, I believe that supporting Romania’s accession to the Schengen area is in favor of those you represent”.
