Social Democratic Party (PSD) Senator Titus Corlatean, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, has announced his candidacy for the leadership of the Social Democratic Party at the party congress set to take place in the autumn.
‘I have decided to run for the presidency of the Social Democratic Party, at the party congress which is due to be organised this autumn. We are going through an extremely complicated and difficult crisis, and we know the reasons why. There is a need for a new team in the leadership of PSD – competent, professional people of good quality, people of integrity, with credibility, good communicators, who speak foreign languages and know how to engage with others,’ Corlatean said in a message posted on Facebook on Sunday.
In his view, what is needed is competence, not mediocrity – ‘not transactional leaders who have traded the party’s interests for their own.’
‘We went through a trauma in November, in December, and in the spring of this year. We lost many people – voters, members and supporters. A renewal is needed, a profound change in team and style. For the good of PSD, for the good of millions of Romanians. I invite you to join me in a project that belongs exclusively to PSD, within PSD, among us, the members of the Social Democratic Party. I invite you to stand with me in this necessary struggle – to win this fight for the Social Democratic Party, for the people who have supported us and who still support and believe in us, for Romania,’ Titus Corlatean said.
