Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that much is being said about the enormous potential of relations between the United States and Russia, but that in reality “nothing is happening,” Reuters reported, citing Agerpres.

After winning the 2024 US presidential election, Donald Trump resumed dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin and repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine, although peace has so far proved elusive.

“Good words” about cooperation in technology, energy and other projects have so far led nowhere, the Russian foreign minister also said, adding that Moscow appreciates the current US president’s initiative to open dialogue with Russia.

“However, nothing is happening in real life,” Sergei Lavrov, who has served as Russia’s foreign minister since 2004, told RT India in English, according to a transcript provided by the ministry he leads.

Sergei Lavrov added that the dialogue with Moscow that has taken place has been on the same note as during President Joe Biden’s administration. “Apart from this regular dialogue – which is normal in relations between people and countries – everything else follows the pattern initiated by President Biden,” Sergei Lavrov said.

“The sanctions imposed under him remained in force. Moreover, the Trump administration has adopted its own initiatives to punish the Russian economy,” the Russian foreign minister added.
