Seven Romanian citizens injured in coach accident in Padua, transported to nearby hospitals

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs that, according to preliminary information, as a result of the accident that took place on Monday in the area of the city of Padua, seven Romanian citizens were injured and transported to nearby hospital units to receive specialized medical care, Agerpres informs.

The MAE specifies in a reply sent to Agerpres that the Embassy of Romania in the Italian Republic and the Consulate General of Romania in Trieste took note of the information in the media regarding a road accident that took place on Monday in Italy, on the highway A13, in the direction of the city of Padua, in which a coach with 56 Romanian citizens on board, bound for Romania, was involved.

In this context, the representatives of the diplomatic mission and the consular office took urgent steps with the Italian authorities to obtain information about the citizenship, identity, state of health of the victims, as well as the circumstances of the road accident.

At the same time, a representative of the General Consulate of Romania in Trieste traveled to Padua and is in contact with the competent authorities (Police, hospitals, etc), in order to find additional details about the accident and to provide specific consular assistance in such situations.

„According to the preliminary information, obtained by the representatives of the consular office, the MAE informs that seven Romanian citizens (three minors and four adults) are injured, but not in life-threatening situation, and were urgently transported to nearby hospital units, in order to receive specialized medical care”, says the MAE.

The investigation of the competent Italian authorities regarding the circumstances of this incident is ongoing.

Also, the MAE informs that, from the information available at the consular office level, the transport company that owns the coach involved in the accident will ensure the pick-up of the other passengers and their transport to Romania.

The Consulate General of Romania in Trieste continues the dialogue with the local authorities, being prepared to provide consular assistance, depending on the requests, according to the legal powers.
