A Romanian driver was caught, on Wednesday, when he was trying to take seven migrants from Sri Lanka out of the country, whom he hid in the cab of the truck he was driving and in which he had no goods.
The truck was checked at the western Nadlac II Border Crossing Point.
„A Romanian citizen, at the wheel of a road vehicle registered in Romania, presented himself for border formalities on the way out of the country. He was traveling without a load on the Romania-Hungary route. Following the detailed control of the means of transport, seven foreign citizens were discovered, hidden in the driver’s rest area in the tractor’s cabin,” the Arad Border Police said.
The foreigners were taken to the headquarters of the border police, where it was found that they are Sri Lankan citizens who entered Romania legally.
The driver is being investigated for migrant trafficking, and the foreigners for attempting to fraudulently cross the state border.
