Several institutions receive new threat message; SRI: No elements suggest threat is real

Published on

A new threat message regarding the perpetration of an attack was sent on Wednesday morning, via email, to several schools in Bucharest and across the country.

The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) announced that so far, no elements have been identified that would suggest the threat is real.

‘From SRI’s point of view, the threat is not a specific one. So far, no elements have been identified that would lead to the conclusion that the threat is real. The relevant authorities have taken over the case and are working to identify the sender,’ the SRI pointed out.

‘The message was sent from the same email address as the previous ones. Both yesterday and today, the Romanian Police were notified by several educational institutions in the Capital and in multiple counties that some schools received threat messages. A new development is that some photographs were also attached,’ Romanian Police spokesperson Georgian Dragan said in a phone intervention on Digi24 private television broadcaster.

He said that following checks carried out together with the SRI, indications suggest the message is false, but the authorities are continuing their investigations, and the investigators already have several leads.

‘The threat message was received from the same email address. Therefore, the person who sent it is the same. We currently have several leads under investigation,’ Dragan added.

‘Both yesterday, 23 September, and today, 24 September, the Romanian Police were notified that several institutions received a threat message on their official email addresses. The competent structures are conducting specific checks to establish the exact situation. Preliminary information from the investigations carried out by the Police, in coordination with the Romanian Intelligence Service, indicates that there are no signs suggesting the threat is real,’ the Romanian Police had informed on Wednesday.
