The share of unemployed youth under the age of 25 dropped to 8.85% in the first six months of this year, from 12.11% as recorded in the similar period of 2023, the Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity (MMSS) informs on Wednesday), in a Facebook post.

„According to the National Agency for Employment, an institution under the authority of the Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity, the monthly average of the number of registered young unemployed, under the age of 25, decreased in the first six months of the current year to 21,839, compared to an average of 28,365 in the same period last year, compared to 12.11% in the first six months of 2023,” the ministry informs in the post on the social media page.

According to the source, during the mentioned period there was also a decrease among unemployed young people under 30 years old. Thus, the monthly average of the number of registered unemployed in this category was 36,449 in the first half of 2024, compared to 44,913 in the first six months of 2023. Their share in the total number of unemployed decreased from 19.18% in the first half of last year to 14.74% in the same period of the current year.

„This positive development comes in a European context where the unemployment rate among young people under 25 was 14.4% in June 2024, down compared to the previous months. One of my priorities as a minister is to strengthen the labour market and keep young people who can develop and put skills and to have successful careers, in the country,” minister Simona Bucura Oprescu, said in the quoted post.
