Signs not bad, seems we have a chance for US visas’ lifting, Iohannis says in New York

Romania has a chance to liberalize the visa regime for the US and the signs are not bad, the president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, stated on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday night, but he avoided advancing a time horizon for a decision by Washington in this regard.

Asked what the prospects are regarding the lifting of visa requirements for the USA, Klaus Iohannis said that „very intensive work has been done on awareness, on informing the public, and it seems that we have chances here as well”.

He specified that „analyses, measurements, conclusions” will follow, but that he is „very satisfied with the way work was done in this case. Both those at home worked very hard, and those here worked very hard” .

„And I really think that informing the public was the key to having a much, much lower refusal rate. You know the whole thing is about that certain refusal rate that has to be low enough. The signs are not bad,” the president told Romanian journalists, yet he still avoided advancing a calendar in this regard.
„After we have the first results, we can address this as well,” Klaus Iohannis added.
