Six nationalist parties in the European Parliament – from Austria, Hungary, Spain, France, Italy and Poland – signed a parliamentary cooperation agreement on European policy issues, the Austrian Freedom Party (FPO, far-right) informed, EFE reports, Agerpres reads.
In a statement, FPO MEP Harald Vilimsky qualifies the agreement as an important step „for the cooperation of patriotic and conservative parties at the European level”.
The agreement was signed by the FPO, the League (Italy), the National Group (France), Vox (Spain), Fidesz (Hungary) and a minority party in the ruling coalition in Poland.
Without giving details about the agreement, Vilimsky appreciated that this „cooperation of the representatives of the ID, ECR factions and the Fidesz parliamentarians unites what needs to be united”.
Identity and Democracy (ID) is a right-wing to far-right political group in the European Parliament, which includes, among others, the FPO, the League and the National Group. The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group includes, among others, Vox, while Fidesz is not part of any political group after leaving the European People’s Party (EPP) in 2021 to avoid being kicked out of it group.
The objective of the cooperation is, according to Vilimsky, to form „a strong political axis as a counterweight to the massive immigration and the centralization of the EU”.
