The Chief of the Defense Staff (SMAp), General Daniel Petrescu, spoke on the phone with General Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), about the discovery of drone elements on the Romanian bank of the Danube, informs the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), write Agerpres.
According to the cited source, the conversation took place on Thursday. „The discussions concerned the regional security situation in the context of the intensification of the Russian Federation’s attacks on some civil infrastructure targets in Ukraine, located in the vicinity of our country, the discovery of drone elements in the area of the Romanian locality of Plauru, as well as allied and national measures to avoid possible incidents on the territory of Romania”, reads a release sent on Friday by the MApN.
Minister Angel Tilvar declared on Wednesday for AGERPRES that in fragments of a piece of equipment „that could be assimilated to a drone” were found in Tulcea county, and the samples will be analyzed to establish the origin, capacity and type of the equipment.
President Klaus Iohannis stated that he was informed „in real time” by the Ministry of National Defense of this situation. The head of state specified that, „if it is confirmed that these elements belong to a Russian drone”, the situation is „inadmissible” and is a serious violation of Romania’s sovereignty.
