Solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations up 58.6 pct in first nine months of the year

The solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations in the period January 1 – September 30, 2024 was 2.93 billion kWh, up 58.6% year-over-year, according to data published Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The figures for solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations also include prosumers.

Production from thermal power plants amounted to 12.64 billion kWh, down by 0.3%, production from hydro power plants amounted to 11.46 billion kWh, down by 23.6%, and production from nuclear power plants amounted to 7.97 billion kWh, down by 3.8%.

Production from wind power plants in the period January 1 – September 30, 2024, was 4.63 billion kWh, a decline of 16.9% compared to the same period last year.

Final electricity consumption in the first nine months was 37.44 billion kWh, up 1.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. Final consumption of electricity in the economy increased by 0.7%, population consumption increased by 3.2%, and public lighting decreased by 1%.

Electricity exports amounted to 8.16 billion kWh, down by 5.2%, while imports amounted to 9.52 billion kWh, up by 61.1%. Own technological consumption in grids and stations was 3.55 billion kWh, down by 3.9%.

The INS statistics also show that primary energy resources in the period January 1 – September 30, 2024 decreased by 2.5% and electricity resources were 0.3% lower than in the period January 1 – September 30, 2023.

Main primary energy resources, in the period January 1 – September 30, 2024, totaled 23.98 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), down by 614,900 toe, year-over-year.

Domestic production totaled 12.66 million toe, down by 5.4% compared to the period January 1 – September 30, 2023, while imports amounted to 11.32 million toe, up by 0.9%.
