Sorana Cirstea qualifies for the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Osaka

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea qualified on Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 tournament in Osaka (Japan), which has a total prize pool of 275,094 US dollars, after defeating Katie Boulter, 6-3, 6-1.

Cirstea (35 years old, 51 WTA) sealed her victory after 69 minutes of playing, with this being her first meeting with the British player (29 years old, 59 WTA).

Sorana Cirstea won a cheque of 6,815 US dollars and 54 WTA points for reaching this far in the competition, and in the quarterfinals she will face the winner between Czech Marie Bouzkova, seed no. 5, and Swiss Viktorija Golubic.

Also on Wednesday, Jaqueline Cristian defeated 8th seeded Spanish player Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2.

In the quarterfinals, Jaqueline Cristian (27 years old, 47 WTA) will meet seed no. 1 Japanese Naomi Osaka, who defeated, 7-6 (8/6), 3-6, 6-2, Dutch Suzan Lamens, the defending champion.

Jaqueline Cristian and Naomi Osaka (27 years old, 16 WTA) have not faced each other on the professional circuit before.

In doubles, Cristian and Serbian Olga Danilovic were defeated by the pair Nadia Kicenok (Ukraine)/Makoto Ninomiya (Japan), 7-5, 5-7, 10-6, in the quarterfinals. AGERPRES
